World Premiere by China's Sang Jijia with BeijingDance / LDTX at the Vail International Dance Festival

VAIL, Colorado—The Vail International Dance Festival will host China’s premiere modern dance company BeijingDance / LDTX on Wednesday, August 4 at 7:30pm at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater.  The company’s Vail debut will feature the world premiere of Solitude in Numbers by internationally renowned choreographer Sang Jijia.

Solitude in Numbers features music especially created for Jijia by Hong Kong based musician, Dickson Dee. The thought-provoking piece offers personal insight into Jijia’s thoughts of experiencing loneliness in a city of millions. Jijia’s approach to dance is unique for China, as traditionally, the choreographer’s role is very independent of the dancers.

Vail International Dance Festival’s Artistic Director, Damian Woetzel selected BeijingDance / LDTX because of the company’s unique blend of traditional Chinese movement and discipline combined with the influence of Western choreographers such as William Forsythe.

“It is important for the Festival to provide the opportunity for the Vail community to experience dance not only through a range of disciplines, but through distinct cultural experiences. BeijingDance / LDTX is a fantastic company that will captivate the audience with their innovative movement and unique perspective,” said Woetzel.

Jijia is China’s first ethnic Tibetan choreographer of modern dance and BeijingDance / LDTX is the first modern dance company in China to be founded independently of the state.

Tickets for Beijing Dance / LDTX are $17 for lawn and $55/$75 for reserved seats based on section and are available online at www.vaildance.org or by phone at either (970) 845-TIXS (8497) or 888-920-ARTS (2787).

The Vail International Dance Festival is a project of the Vail Valley Foundation.
