Rivers
From mild to wild, we've got water, water, and more water here in the Vail and Beaver Creek area, offering Class I - Class V whitewater and miles of world-class fly-fishing.
Gore Creek is a gold medal fly-fishing stream that runs down the mountains and through the center of Vail Village, entering the Eagle River near Minturn. Check out the kayakers at the Vail Whitewater Park, in the center of the Village.
Beaver Creek runs through Beaver Creek Village. In early summer, the Creek rages, but by mid-August, it slows down to a trickle.
The covered bridges in Vail and Beaver Creek offer great family photo opps!
The Eagle River offers excellent fly-fishing as well as whitewater for rafting and kayaking. Flows from Minturn to the juncture of the Colorado River at Dotsero.
The Colorado River joins the Eagle at Dotsero, flowing through Glenwood Canyon all the way to the Gulf of Mexico.
High-mountain lakes abound, offering food and shelter for indigenous fish, birds, beavers, and the occasional human skinny-dipper.
Rafting & kayaking season bumps right up to the closing of the ski resorts, peaking in mid-summer. Take a trip with one of our local outfitters... they offer a rafting trip for every age, fitness level, and thrill-seeking capacity! Fly-fishing is wonderful year-round. Bring your gear, or hire a guide to show you the secret stashes and most productive flies.
Natural Environment
Vail and Beaver Creek, in Eagle, County, Colorado, are in the heart of Colorado's White River National Forest. The stunning Eagles' Nest Wilderness, with more than 133,600 acres of National Forest, is also nearby. The region is a safe home for eagles, hawks, bear, fox, coyotes, bighorn sheep, marmots, beaver, trout, deer, elk and moose.
Two mountain ranges envelope Vail and Beaver Creek: The Gore Range, which is a dramatic backdrop to Vail Village; and the Sawatch Range, home of the historic Mountain of the Holy Cross. Everywhere you go, the views are epic, the wildflowers are brilliant, and the air is clean and clear. We revel in our low-humidity, sunny environment, with an average of 300 days of sunshine each year. Although summer days inevitably start out sunny and fair, afternoon thunderstorms may roll in, so be prepared.
